A Happy House Christmas…Its getting very near to december and here in the happy house we have been getting the place all decorated for the holiday season…This year above all years, I have really noticed the dark nights and I hate them! I suppose it is because I have more to do in my day…and I need the light to do them! Gardening has become a true love of mine as is visiting my Mum, we have such a lovely relationship now and I want to go and visit her often…
So the fact that the day light is getting shorter…is not fitting in with my routine at all! so decorating for christmas and getting lots of twinkly lights up is helping me get used to the whole business! (Roll on Spring she says!)This year it has been a combined effort…Freddy has been buying lots of modern decorations and I have put out the vintage pieces that I can’t live without…First of all we hardly had any red! but eventually I got my way! ( I nagged and nagged! lol!) and as soon as the red was added it felt right to me…I just cant live without it!So as you can see in the pictures I have got my way quite a lot…I have told Fred that if he wants to get rid of the red in the New Year that we are going to have to have a ‘Divorce’ he just laughed! but I am adamant…(did I just spell Adam Ant? lol!) Ok Ok so I am not going to leave the deocrations up…but I am going to bring down, from the loft, all the red vintage pieces that he had thought, I had sold! hahaha! me not silly…as if I would of sold any of it anyway! 😉
So I will leave you with the first set of my Chrimbo Pictures…and I hope you enjoy them!
I hope they have given you a little inspiration…I will be adding some more soon…Have a great week…
Bye for Now my Lovelies,
It’s My Blog’s 10th Birthday!
I have got to mention something which happened earlier in the year and that is!…it was my blogs birthday!! Yes Happy Loves Rosie was 10 years old in June! see first post Here. I had always meant to celebrate it…but what with all the busy days I have had this year I just didn’t get ‘a round to it’!…HaHaHa…remember these things…My Nan had one of those!
It was fitting for me to have a memorable birthday this year as so much has happened…at the start of the year we had our new house renovated with a lift to access upstairs for Freddy and a wet room fitted…
The house was a total mess for a couple of weeks and Freddy had to sleep in the middle of the living room…The builders came on the wrong day…a little earlier than planned, so they moved everything over to the other side of the room for me…but anything that we wanted over there had to be left there lol! as there was no way we could get to it!
FREDDY MY LOVELY HUBBY
I moved my mum over to Kent from Essex (she lives just around the corner now)…I can’t really take the credit for packing her things up as we got the removal men to do that, but the unpacking and finding a new place for everything was my job and it went on and on! Its funny as when we need something we always think of where it was in her old home (she did live there for 50 years!) and can’t seem to remember where it is in her new one lol! but gradually we trace it back to where it is now in its new place…
MY LOVELY MUM AT DOBIES
So as you can imagine that took a good few months to sort everything out and now a lot of my time is divided between visiting and going out with Mum (which is brilliant) and doing things with Freddy (which is also brilliant)…
I have also completely renovated my garden…given it a total makeover all on my own! I so love going out there and digging around…apparently it is a good way of relieving stress…it sure does help me! (part 3 coming up soon) part 1 and 2 Here and Here.
A SNEEK PEEK
I have also maintained Mums garden, she has a large hedge around the front of her property and we hired a man to do that! but I have also painted all of her fences white and her little garden house blue…I am sooo envious of her garden house…I have got to get myself one of those, as I so miss our little Holivan!
MUMS NEW BACK GARDEN
MUMS NEWLY PAINTED BLUE GARDEN SHED
I have since given the garden house another couple of coats of a deeper blue (still pale) but I mixed some cheap ronseal ‘cornflower blue’ with some cuprinol ‘white daisy’ and the colour looks lovely…I roughly mixed half and half. Then I painted all the fence panels in ‘white daisy’ they look lovely and all the greenery looks amazing next to it. (I will take some more pictures soon to show you! I cleared up all that paint that is smudged on those cute little windows! just in case you were wondering lol!
FREDDIES CONSTANT BOOTY BUYING
There have been other shananigans going on, like constantly getting rid of the clutter here…and Freddy going and buying it all back again over the summer months at the Boot Sales and Antique Fairs! It feels like I am in a constant clutter zone!…My Mum keeps advising me to chuck it all out…but that is extremely difficult when you are married to a ‘clutter upper’! I am now the one that wants a clutter free zone, but I don’t think I am ever going to get it!
There has been so many other things that has happened this year…I can’t remember them now but it has been a busy one…probably why the year has gone so quick! So I had better finish! before you all get pins and needles….
It’s been a good Happy Birthday Year…and now I am in a better routine, I hope to bring you more Happy House shenanigans…Don’t forget to leave a comment…everyone can comment now! Yay!
Bye for now my lovely friends.
PS – sorry about the quality of the pictures…lots have been taken on my handmedown iphone 4 ! 😉
A Change is as Good as a Rest.
Since I have changed my hair colour from red to grey, I feel like I am a new person…When I had the red hair, because it was so vibrant, I felt like I had to always be bright and cheerful myself! Oh don’t get me wrong! I actually loved being that happy person, dressing in bright and happy colours and decorating my home in that way, but now I feel I have entered a new phase in my life…if I was writing a book, it would be called a new chapter…
Of course moving to a new modern home also had a hand in my transition…I got to work in the garden (my new hobby) and Fred wanted to do the interior and between us we have changed quite a lot. We have got rid of a lot of colour in our lives and as Fred says “grown up more” Yes we were both ready for the change.
I have stopped collecting trinkets from my past (probably because I am getting on so much better with my Mum!) and have taken quite a few items to the charity shops, just to declutter my head! Things like all the jewellery I had made to sell on my website..lol half of those bad boys never got listed at all…just waiting, sitting around idly taking up precious space. My vintage material pile got a decluttering too! At first I was a little bit nervous, thinking I wanted to keep the lot, but the more I got rid of things, the more I felt the New Me was emerging.
Florals have always played a big part in my life and coveting Cath Kidston since 1993 I have laid out a pretty penny!…harping back to the memories of my Nan and Grandad’s house, the olden days so to speak, memories of happy times with all my family around me spurred me on to be a collect-a-holic of everything I remembered from that time!
Now I am finding that I like more modern things, it’s such a breathe of fresh air now, shopping in modern shops and looking at the latest trends, with regard to fashion and home Decor. My red hair used to stop me from buying a lot of clothes, I mainly stuck to blues, but now I can wear vibrant reds, bright yellows without looking like mustard and tomato ketchup! 😉 and Cerise.
I have also moved away from brightly coloured accessories and I now like more sleek simple shapes, circles, squares, ovals in silver and golds in Jewellery and classic shapes in bags…
I have changed my mugs from pretty Cath Kidston ones to a more earthy style like the ones below…
I have still kept a lot of my enamelware, but where we had so much of it, we were able to declutter a lot of the red keeping the pastel blues and pinks…Our house is forever changing and evolving, as indeed we are too…it’s good to have a change every now and then…we feel that now we are on the road to recovery from all the dark and horrible times that we have had in the past few years…
Bye for now my lovelies…
