Think Outside the Blog: 5 Alternative Content Ideas That Get People Talking

Photo - Happy Harris - Blogging at Home

Remember when blogs were the only game in town? Those were simpler times. While blogs remain valuable, they're starting to feel a bit like that friend who still references memes from 2010—functional, but perhaps not the most exciting presence at the party.

Here are five fresh content formats that can help you connect with your audience in more meaningful ways:

1. Behind-the-Scenes Time-Lapses

There's something oddly captivating about watching a process unfold in fast-forward. Whether you're crafting artisanal soaps, coding a new app, or fitting out high-quality serviced offices, time-lapse content gives your audience a peek behind the curtain.

The best part? These videos require minimal editing and zero scripting. Just press record and do your thing—though perhaps avoid scratching your nose or taking that third coffee break.

2. Product Problem-Solving Showcases

Create an interactive database where customers can solve each other's troubles. For example, an office furniture company could allow users to submit their trickiest workplace design problems, and others could share solutions with photos and measurements.

Real estate agents could contribute tips about maximizing micro-apartments, while startup founders could demonstrate how to transform bland corporate spaces into vibrant team hubs. Each solution could include budget breakdowns and lessons learned, creating a practical resource that grows more valuable over time.

3. Interactive Decision Maps

Build sophisticated but user-friendly tools that help people make tough decisions in your industry. A sustainable building materials company could, for example, create a tool that guides users through questions about their climate, budget, and environmental priorities before suggesting optimal choices.

Users could toggle between factors like initial cost versus long-term savings, or durability versus environmental impact. Each path could include real case studies and performance data. Unlike basic flowcharts, these tools can be programmed to adapt based on user input and provide practical next steps—like connecting users with local suppliers or providing installation guides.

4. Micro-Podcasts

Forget hour-long episodes. Create 3-5 minute audio snippets focusing on single, specific topics. These bite-sized audio pieces fit perfectly into those odd pockets of time when people are waiting for their coffee to brew, waiting for a bus, or pretending to listen during unnecessary virtual meetings.

5. Weekly Myth-Busting Sessions

Every industry has its share of misconceptions and outdated beliefs. Create regular myth-busting content that tackles these head-on with data, expert insights, and a dash of humor. A great one for an IT support company would be a list of myths titled, "No, Turning It Off and On Again Won't Fix Everything"—though, to be fair, it does fix most things.

To make any of these unique content ideas work, you’ll need consistency and authenticity. Don't try to force humor if your brand voice is naturally more serious. Similarly, if your audience responds well to casual banter, there's no need to suddenly adopt a formal tone.

Remember to track engagement metrics, but don't let numbers dictate everything. Sometimes the most valuable content is the piece that reaches fewer people but creates stronger connections. After all, would you rather have a thousand passive scrollers or a hundred engaged brand fans?

One final tip: mix and match these formats based on your resources and audience preferences. There's no rule saying you can't turn your myth-busting session into a micro-podcast or create a decision tree based on user-generated challenges.

And be ready to jump on new ideas as they arise. Who knows? Maybe in 2030, we'll all be creating holographic hauls, placing our products virtually in the laps of our customers. We just hope someone comes up with a better name than “holographic hauls” by then.

Pared Back Christmas Decor and Ramblings

simple lit christmas tree on a dressing table

Pared Back Christmas Decor and Ramblings.

This year my mind has been all over the place, I just haven't been able to settle on any one task, apart from lately making Bella, Homemade dog food! So the thought of getting all the Christmas decorations down from the loft was making me tired just at the thought of it!  So we decided to have a pared back christmas and not go, all over the top like we usually do!

lit christmas tree french and dutch style

We just got down a smaller Christmas tree and a scattering of christmas decorations and made do.  We do have a lot of battery candles, which help to make the room look cosy and a trip to Ikea also helped with a few spit spots of red here and there.

red baubles tucked in a glass cake stand with a christmas tree looking over a garden

It was a very tough and sad year, you see...As back in March Freddy's Dad passed away.  He had been suffering from prostrate cancer, when he caught Pneumonia and was taken to Hospital.  He was very weak, but managed to get over the Pneumonia and the nurses where making plans for him to come home...But then as Freddy visited him with his Mum the next day, they were told that he had caught Covid!  And weren't allowed to see him, but just look through some glass and wave...

He died the very next day...His body was just too weak to fight it off!..........

Pretty vintage christmas scene

As you can imagine, it has affected us all so badly.  Getting used to not seeing him takes a lot of time and tears.   He was such a character (see pic above) So as I said before this year has been very hard for all the family and probably why, if I am honest, that we didn't want to go too over the top with the decor side of things.

This year I have also been part/diagnosed with ADHD,  but it looks like I have the ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) but no Hyperactivity!  I say 'part' because it is extreemly likely but it is still in discussion...it is also likey that I am on the Autism Spectrum too!  which would explain a lot of why it has always been hardwork being myself lol!...and the symptoms seem to be getting worse for me as I am getting older!  It might be that now I know what I have,  well! I have an excuse don't I! where as when I didn't know what it was...I just got on with it! Oh well Hey ho! That's the way the cookie crumbles I suppose lol!

We have had a lovely Christmas though, (well as lovely as can be expected under the circumstances) Freddy's Mum is staying with us and we all went over to my Mums on Christmas Day, where we stuffed turkey, figgy pudding and chocolates into our mouths until our hearts were content! Well why not!

We also played games and some of them were rather rude 'cards against humanity' for instance was soooo funny and rather shocking! lol! I don't know what version we had but it was definitely X-rated! Playing it with my soon to be 94 year old Mum and Freddy's soon to be 80 year old Mum was hilarious...I haven't laughed so much in such a long time...my belly hurt...there was 8 of us in all and we were all laughing hysterically!  and I think the best bit was the way Freddy did a double take everytime his Mum won a round with the best answer (and the rudest!) lol!  You have got to give it a go, if you haven't already!

I will leave you with the rest of my pictures of our Sitting room...

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas, my Friends and I wish you all, from the bottom of my heart, a VERY Happy New Year...

Speak to you soon xxx

P.S I've been recently told that it was the Adult version of 'Cards Against Humanity' that we were playing lol!

Homemade Dog Food with Chicken, Beef Mince and Veggies

Homemade Dog Food with Chicken, Beef Mince and Veggies.

Lately I have been making Bella, homemade dog food with chicken thighs and Veggies and I have also added in a recipe of beef mince and Veggies and she is really enjoying the meals and loving life at the moment!  The reason behind me doing this starts of with a holiday back in October, where Freddy and I went away for a couple of weeks and left her at home with my Daughter Rosie (now 30! can you believe it!).  Whilst we were away, Bella caught an infection and was extremely ill, only to be taken to the vets and put on a strict diet of plain Chicken and rice and probiotic drinks!...slowly she got better and by the time we got home she was well again.

I tried giving her her usual food, but all she did was turn her nose up!  But when I gave her Plain boiled chicken and rice she loved it!  So I started looking into what was healthy for her to eat and how to cook foods that she could enjoy.  There is so much information on the internet and so many recipes out there, but I have just stuck to basic recipes, making them up as I go along.

This recipe I just threw together one day,  but have had to make it over and over again as it seems to be a combination that she really enjoys.

Recipe 1
Chicken Thighs with Sweet Potato and Veggies

INGREDIENTS
8 Chicken Thighs
2 Sweet Potatos
2 Small Potatos
2 Handfuls of Peas
2 Handfuls of Runner Beans
2 Handfuls of Macaroni
Spray Olive Oil
(4 sprays for each serving.  Helps with their bones and coat)

METHOD

  1. Boil the chicken thighs in a saucepan of water for about 20 minutes or until they are cooked through thoroughly.  Set them aside to cool for a while and retain some of the water for a gravy.

  2. Wash and peel the potatos and sweet potatos and cook those in a pan of boiling water (no salt).

  3. At this point you could add in the other veggies and the macaroni (see below! what a mess lol!), depending on the size of the pan you have.  If you cook them all together the macaroni will take on their flavours, but if you prefer you can cook them all separately!

dog food recipes

Once they are all cooked, it's just a case of cutting or shreading the chicken thighs up into small pieces (I add one thigh to a microwave/freezer proof plastic container) and mashing in the Potatos with the juice from the Chicken and then mashing in all the other ingredients to a consitancy, of what you recognise as dog food.  I mash in the sweet potatos next and then I cut up the macaroni and veggies (see top picture) and add those in, sometimes I also put in carrots, but Bella has a rather clever way of eating everything up and flicking all the carrots to one side! lol!  If I mash these, though, she doesn't know they are there!  It's a bit like getting children to eat their veggies,  you have got to try and hide them in their food lol!

And Viola...

home made dog food
The picture above shows you different stages of my mixing in all the other ingredients!...it tastes blooming delicious! Well why wouldn't it! al least you know whats in it!  You can either freeze these or put them in the fridge ready for serving.

You can bulk the servings up with some plain rice, if you want to be a bit more economical or if you have a larger dog.  Bella is a Cavachon so probably would be in the medium size dog catergory.  I also stir in about 4-5 sprays of olive oil to each portion, this is extreemely good for dogs as it helps maintain good bones and coat.

The other day I was cooking up some mince to make a shepherds pie and had some left over, so I decided to make Bella another tasty dish! Because variety is the spice of life right!

Recipe 2
Bella's Mince and Spagetti

INGREDIENTS
400g Lean Minced Beef or left overs
1 Portion of Spagetti
3 - 4 Sprigs of Brocolli
Spray Olive Oil
(4-5 sprays for each serving.  Helps with their bones and coat)
Plain Rice to bulk up.

METHOD

  1. Cook mince, broccolli and spagetti and mix all the ingredients together,  chopping into small palatable pieces.

  2. Add equal portions into plastic containers and add 4-5 sprays of spray olive oil.  Stir.

  3. Add other veggies if wanted according to your dogs taste.

Because the fat content is quite high in minced beef, i would definitely bulk this meal up with cooked plain rice...I do this when I am serving it to her.  I buy the cheapest microwaveable rice brand and add the rice to the meal with some water and then cook it for 30 seconds in the microwave...

She loves it and I feel like I am giving the absolute best I can afford to her!  Okay so making you're own can be a little expensive, but even if you just use left over cuts of meat and buy the cheapest mixed vegetable combo! Rice and Pasta can be so cheap as well! As long you are using the right ingredients, it can all be done according to your budget...it's sure worth a try? don't you think?

...And just to let you know folks!

At the start of the year I was told by Bella's new groomer to always give your dog bottled water!...as tap water has lots of impurities in it, that can mess with your dogs health!  Well since giving her only bottled water,  all of her brown stains around her eyes and mouth have disappeared! she has gone from looking like this...

To this...

cavachon dog sitting on sofa

Also The Vet and the Groomer have told me that her health and coat have improved considerably since her new diet! Bella will be 11 in January and is in such good health at the moment.  No one believes me when I tell them that she is 11!

I hope you find this information useful as I feel us doggy people should share information like this with each other.

Do you have any helpful tips that you can bring to the conversation?  Please comment below if you have :) x

Hope you are all keeping well my lovelies xx

Get Ready to Deck the Halls Christmas is on Its Way

Get Ready to Deck the Halls: Christmas is on Its Way

The days are much shorter, and there's a certain crispness in the air that can only mean one thing – Christmas is on its way! The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner, bringing with it a flurry of excitement, joy, and the promise of magical moments. As we dust off our favourite ornaments and untangle the mountains string lights lol!  let's explore the anticipation and festive spirit that comes with the approaching holiday season...

The Countdown Begins

With each passing day, the anticipation of Christmas builds. The calendar pages flip, and the date draws nearer, marking the annual return of a season filled with goodwill, merriment and celebrations. It's a time when the world seems to sparkle a little brighter, and the promise of holiday cheer is just around the corner. The countdown to Christmas is not just about marking days; it's a journey into the heart of a season that captivates us all.

Decorating for Delight

One of the first signs that Christmas is on its way is the transformation of homes and public spaces into winter wonderlands. The familiar scent of pine from freshly cut Christmas trees fills the air, and colorful lights begin to illuminate the darkness. Whether it's hanging stockings by the fireplace, adorning the tree with cherished ornaments, or wrapping presents with care, the act of decorating is a joyful ritual that heralds the arrival of Christmas.

Shopping and Giving

The hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and folks singing Carols as you go about your daily life are undeniable signals that Christmas is just around the corner. As we weave through crowded shopping centers and browse online stores, there's a special thrill in finding the perfect gifts for our loved ones. The art of giving takes center stage, reminding us that the true spirit of Christmas lies in generosity and thoughtfulness. It's a time when small gestures carry significant meaning and bring smiles to the faces of those we hold dear.

Festive Flavors and Culinary Delights

Christmas is a feast for the senses, and the culinary delights associated with the season are an integral part of the celebration. From the aroma of freshly baked gingerbread cookies to the warmth of a cup of spiced eggnog, the flavors of Christmas evoke a sense of comfort and joy. As kitchens fill with the delicious scents of holiday cooking, it's a delicious reminder that Christmas is just around the corner.

Creating Cherished Moments

Beyond the decorations and festivities, Christmas is a time for creating cherished moments with family and friends. Whether it's gathering around a table for a festive meal, enjoying classic holiday movies, or singing carols by the fire, the season is an opportunity to forge lasting memories. As Christmas approaches, the promise of these heartwarming moments becomes a beacon of joy in our lives...

But lets not forget the people in this world that are homeless in poverty and fighting wars through no fault of their own and how sad it is to see in this day and age!  You would of thought that in this 21st Century of ours, that there would be no hate!  You would of thought that the men of previous times would have learnt their lessons from the past...so amoungst all these Christmas celebrations...let's take a little time out and pray that soon there will be Peace x.

Conclusion

As we eagerly await the arrival of Christmas, let's revel in the excitement of the season. From the twinkle of lights to the joy of giving, the signs are everywhere – Christmas is on its way. So, gather your loved ones, embrace the festive spirit, and get ready to deck the halls with laughter, love, and the magic that only Christmas can bring.  Make sure you have visited your vulnerable neighbours and make sure that they are warm and have a special place to go...why not invite them to your home, what with all the festivities!  One more guest won't matter...and it won't be long before the most wonderful time of the year is here to fill our hearts with warmth and our homes with the spirit of the season...

Love to you all always xx

Creating an Outdoor Oasis during the Summer Months

summer garden trends

Creating an Outdoor Oasis during the Summer Months.

Hey there, green thumbs and plant lovers! With summer in full swing, it's the perfect time to spruce up your garden and create an outdoor oasis during the summer months. If you're looking for some fresh inspiration, I've got you covered. Here are the hottest garden design trends for this summer that will make your neighbors green with envy!

Vibrant Colors

This summer, it's all about embracing bold, eye-catching colors in your garden. Imagine flower beds bursting with fiery reds, sunny yellows, and electric blues. Mix and match vibrant blooms like zinnias, marigolds, and dahlias to create a stunning display of hues. Don't stop at flowers though! ...(And just as I have decided to paint my shed and summerhouse Black!) The trend is to paint your garden furniture in cheerful colors or add colorful pots and planters for an extra pop of vibrancy. Who New?

Vertical Gardens

Limited on space? Vertical gardens are the perfect solution! Create a living wall by installing trellises or wall-mounted planters on your fences or exterior walls. You can also hang baskets from pergolas or construct a vertical herb garden using stacked crates or pallets. This trend not only saves space but also adds a unique and visually captivating element to your garden.

Edible Landscaping

Combine beauty with functionality for an outdoor oasis by incorporating edible plants into your garden. Plant herbs like basil, rosemary, and mint in pots or dedicate a section of your garden to a vegetable patch. Consider adding fruit-bearing plants like strawberries, blueberries, or dwarf fruit trees for a delightful harvest. Edible landscaping not only offers fresh and healthy produce but also creates a charming and abundant atmosphere.

Sustainable Practices

As we become more aware of the importance of sustainable living, gardening is no exception. Embrace eco-friendly practices by composting kitchen scraps and garden waste to enrich your soil naturally. Install rain barrels to collect rainwater for watering your plants, reducing water consumption. Opt for native plants that are adapted to your region's climate and require less water and maintenance. By implementing these practices, you'll create a garden that's not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly.

Cozy Outdoor Living

Your garden should be a haven for relaxation and enjoyment. Create inviting outdoor living spaces by incorporating cozy seating areas. Invest in comfortable outdoor furniture, accessorize with plush cushions and throws, and define the space with outdoor rugs. String up fairy lights or install solar-powered lanterns for a warm and magical ambiance. Complete the cozy vibe by adding a fire pit or an outdoor kitchen to extend your entertainment options.

Wildlife-Friendly Spaces

Invite nature's little helpers into your garden by designing a space that supports local wildlife. Choose native plants that provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies, and bees. Incorporate flowering plants like Lavender, Buddleia and Foxgloves to attract pollinators. Install bird feeders, nesting boxes, and birdbaths to encourage birds to visit and make your garden their home. Adding these elements will create a vibrant ecosystem and make your garden come alive.

Minimalist Zen

In order to create an outdoor Oasis during the Summer Months, you can add a more serene and simplistic garden style by adding a Zen Garfden. Create a minimalist oasis by embracing clean lines, simplicity, and carefully selected elements. Use smooth stones or gravel to create a meditative pathway. Add a bamboo water feature or a small pond to bring a sense of tranquility. Introduce Asian-inspired garden statues, lanterns, or bamboo screens to enhance the Zen atmosphere. This style is all about finding balance and harmony in your outdoor space.

Remember, these trends are meant to inspire you, so feel free to adapt and personalize them to fit your unique style and garden space. Enjoy the process of designing your summer garden and watch it blossom into a breathtaking retreat for you, your loved ones, and nature.

So, grab your gardening gloves and get ready to transform your garden into a summer paradise. Happy gardening!

Are you Still in Love with the Royal Family?

 union jack vintage decor

Are you Still in Love with the Royal Family?

King Charles III and his Coronation is looming up at a pace now and we are beginning to see more and more information on TV about it.  We all knew it was coming up, but there wasn't really much talk about it!  We have though, had the farce, played out in public, about Harry and the way he has been treated by the Royals over the years!  OMG Talk about "Don't air your dirty laundry in Public!!!" Most people won't agree with me, but I think he is a bit of a spoiled brat to tell you the truth and teaming up with Meghan didn't do him any favours at all, as she seems a bit of a narcissist!  you have only got to look at her side of the family to see where their marriage is going (she doesn't speak to them does she!)...Can you tell I'm not a fan?

I have never really had a strong opinion on such things, but this subject is making my blood boil...

union jack vintage decor

I have always been a royalist you see...well the Queen was a darling wasn't she...serving The United Kingdom and the Commenwealth for over 70 years,  and mostly not putting a foot out of place, everyone respected her didn't they! She was one in a million!  And the lovely Phillip...oh I cried my eyes out when he passed away, what a gentleman.  So when the Queen departed this earth, I did kind of think that it was nice that they were together again, because the thought of her being without him just broke my heart.

So when Her Majesty passed away, she left Charles £652 million pounds! for which he didn't pay any inheritance tax on!...well that makes my blood boil! because the likes of you and me have to pay it don't we…!

union jack vintage decor

Also the Coronation is costing the taxpayer £100 million!!! Why couldn’t Charles have paid for this himself…it would have gone down so well with the public and might have even won him a few more fans because according to a recent poll 65% of the general public reckon they won’t even be watching it!  Freddy told me this morning that apparently that is only the half of it, as the taxpayer will be forking out another £150 million for the security as well!

Also! Charles assended to the thrown and became King back in September last year when Queen Elizabeth passed away...so why do we even need all this Pomp and Ceremony expense...this Country is in crisis for goodness sake!  Imagine what £250 million would do for the NHS or for helping people out of poverty!

union jack vintage decor

I think if Charles abdicated and passed the roles onto William and Kate, this would have been a totally different Coronation…there would have been excitement and definitely more support as it would have appealed to the younger generation too…

Charles should have carried on with his conservation work, as he was doing so well with that…I know he has been a King in waiting forever!  But he is past retirement age for goodness sake and as for Camilla! Well that was sprung on us wasn’t it! First Queen Consort and then suddenly on the invitation (where was mine! How Rude! lol!) She is being crowned as well! Who knew! Was I the only one not to have realised this!...I still haven’t forgotten about how Princess Diana was treated by them all!  So I am not sure that I agree with all of this milarkie!!!!!

union jack vintage decor

And as for the whole debarkle going on in the Royal Family…Prince Andrew for one! What a Liar! Still I won’t go there, but they haven’t been painting a very nice picture of themselves have they…

William and Kate on the other hand have been brilliant,  they have been full of dignity and grace and always conducted themselves as you would imagine a future King and Queen to act..none of this “Airing their dirty laundry in Public”  I think the Country would be proud to have them as Head of State…It would be a start to putting the ‘Great’ back into Great Britain!

union jack vintage decor

I suppose it's too late to cancel the weekend now!?

But thanks for the Free day off! lol!

Are you Still in Love with the Royal Family?
