RIP Our Beautiful Max The Wonder Dog

I have not been able to do this post as I have been so distraught about it…But Our lovely Westie Max was so ill and bless his little heart, was trying to fight end stage renal failure…but in the last week he got so ill and had lost so much weight that we had to make the horrible decision to have him put to sleep on the 19th August 2016.  My heart aches for him…I have not taken it well at all and for the first few days couldn’t stop my tears…It’s amazing isn’t it, how a lil’ bundle of fluff can be so a part of the family…I miss him being by my side, wanting cuddles and tapping his paw on the door when he wanted to go out…

There is such a void in my heart…I miss him so terribly, that words just can’t express how I feel…I know he is free of pain now and that he is playing happily over the rainbow bridge…but it just breaks my heart that he is no longer with us…In the end he got very close to Freddy and they would have sleeps on the bed together during the day…they were like two peas in a pod…Ying and Yang…I think he could sense that Freddy was poorly and therefore wanted to be with him because he felt the same…

We were all able to cuddle him as he passed, it was very peaceful, he was so ready!

Max the Wonder Dog

 
Although our little dog Max is now 12 years old, he seems to be healthy...he has good teeth, lovely pink ears and a bonny wet nose...we don't take him for many walks...when he wants to go to the toilet, he scratches the door and he goes out into the garden just to do his business and then as quick as he goes out, he wants to come back in again!

 However I do treat him like my baby...I dress him up in altered baby clothes (3-6 months lol) which he loves...well he has always been used to it, so he thinks its the 'norm'...wherever I go he is not far behind...if he is cosy on the settee next to me and I move, he will never just sit there on his own...no he will follow me! He is my bestest buddy.

I try to feed him on the best food that I can afford, or when we are having meat for dinner I save him some and mix it with plain boiled rice or pasta.

I have always cut his fur myself, he will never allow anyone else to do it...and lately as he is getting older, he gets a bit grumpy with me doing it too, but it has to be done and he does moan a lot...but we all moan a little more as we get older don't we... when he was a baby, for a couple of years I used to hand strip his fur...and even today, I think he benefited from that, as his fur is still as baby soft today!

Even though he is in the best health for his age I still invest in Pet Insurance, I wouldn't be without it...he is too precious to me...and just of late, I have noticed that he bumps into me in the dark, so this is something that needs to be investigated in the New Year as when I looked into his eyes the other day they appear a bit cloudy...so looks like he could be developing Cataracts...bless him!

Happy Peanut Butter Treats for our Doggies

Happy Peanut Butter Treats for our Doggies.  

I wanted to share this with you all, you see, at my local Boot Fair there is a lady selling delicious doggy treats, she only charges 50p each for them and as you can imagine…Max loves them…sometimes she is not there, or I miss her and when I arrive home without them he sulks and doesn’t speak to me for a good few hours…Bless 😀

He especially loves the Peanut Butter Bones that I buy for him…I might even try making these myself, I know Max will love me all the more for it…I would just shape them into bone shapes or I am sure there is a bone cookie cutter out there somewhere…

HOMEMADE PEANUT BUTTER AND BANANA DOG TREATS

The parsley in these treats makes them a secret breath freshener for your pooch; substitute dried mint for half of the parsley, if you like. Don’t hesitate to adjust the size of the treats to accommodate very small or very large dogs, baking them a few minutes less or a few minutes more, as needed.

Ingredients:

• 1 banana, peeled
• 1 cup oat flour
• 2/3 cup rolled oats
• 1/2 cup dried parsley
• 3 tablespoons peanut butter
• 1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 300°F. Put banana in a large bowl and use a spoon or potato masher to mash it thoroughly. Add oat flour, oats, parsley, peanut butter and egg and stir well to combine. Set aside for 5 minutes.

Roll mixture into 24 balls, using about 1 tablespoon dough for each; transfer to a large parchment paper-lined baking sheet as done. Use the back of a spoon or the heel of your hand to press each ball into a (1 1/2- to 2-inch) coin. Bake until firm and deep golden brown on the bottom, 40 to 45 minutes. Set aside to let cool completely.

Storage note: It’s best to store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Or, freeze them to give to your pal later; just be sure to thaw the treats befor handing them out.

Nutritional Info:

PER SERVING: Serving size: 1 each, 45 calories (15 from fat), 1.5g total fat, 0g saturated fat, 10mg cholesterol, 10mg sodium, 6g carbohydrate (1g dietary fiber, 1g sugar), 2g protein

WooooooF…Now doesn’t that sound Yum Yum.

I am not sure about the Banana, as I think that would make them not last as long, so I might leave it out…but anyways, have a go, at least you will know what is in them, better than all the rubbish that you hear; goes into doggy treats ay!  There is also plenty of other recipes on this site…in fact it is a good informational website for a whole host of things…Now look who’s Happy 😀

Walking the Dog

I took Max for a walk the other day to Riverside Country Park..it is about half an hours walk away, but only 5 minutes in the car...Max loves the car, he likes to sit on my lap and breath in the air from the window...Bless!

Paw Paw Maxy

Hello...Maxy here!....

Sorry Mummy has not been blogging lately, only it has been a bit hectic here at The Happy House!...you see, I have had a bad paw!  I have been to the vets...lovely place, well they tricked me actually...it was a new place....I thought I was going out for a walk...only I had to get in the car! Phew what an adventure that was!...I loved looking out of the window and got quite excited about all the people and animals that I could see along the way!
When we got there...so many doggies were giving me the eye!...they all loved my dungarees and one Mummy asked if she could take my picture on her phone!...

My Mummy told me to sit down and of course I did as I was told...but i did cry a bit at all the other doggies...coz I would of so liked, to of gone and sniffed them...but mummy said I should sit quietly with her...so I did!

Apparently is was a cyst on my paw...nothing serious! and I was given some tablets...hmmm! I won't be taking them in a hurry!...

When we got home Mummy gave me a few treats for being such a good boy at the vets...! she wrapped what looked like a sweetie in some bread and marmite and rolled them into little balls for me to eat...oh they were sooo yummy...she gave them to me, now and again, throughout the whole week...and sometimes I just swallowed them straight down without chewing!..after those treats..I did start to feel a little drowsy...and fell asleep a lot on the new sofa! 

Even Rosie fell asleep with me sometimes...oh I am sooo spoilt!

...and much to my surprise...my paw started to get better! I don't know why coz I hadn't seen any of those tablets! 

I feel fit as a fiddle now!...Oh don't I look handsome!...I sit up this end of the sofa...all the time now...and when I want to look really cute..I pull this face and look at Mummy...she just can't resist me!..she gives me lots of cuddles and feeds me loads of snacks...!

Well I had better go now before Mummy catches me writing this, although if I pull my cute face, I know she will let me off! woof woof!

I don't think Green Beans agree with Maxy!

Max had green beans with his dinner...
and hasn't stopped passing wind since! Pooo! What a stinky dog!
I don't think I will be giving him them again...

What vegetables do you give your pet to eat and does he/she have the same problems with green beans? lol ;)
