The first traceable mention of The Sovereign's Birthday being 'kept' by the Grenadier Guards is in 1748 and again, after George III became King in 1760, it was ordered that parades should mark the King's Birthday. From the accesssion of George IV they became, with a few exceptions and notably the two World Wars, an annual event.
This impressive display of pageantry is now held on the occasion of the Queen's Official Birthday. It takes place in June each year (TODAY) to celebrate the official Birthday of the Sovereign and is carried out by her personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade, with the Queen herself attending and taking the salute.
Since 1987, The Queen has attended in a carriage rather than riding, which she did before that on 36 occasions, riding side-saddle and wearing the uniform of the regiment whose Colour was being trooped. The regiments take their turn for this honour in rotation as operational commitments permit.

Over 1400 officers and men are on parade, together with two hundred horses; over four hundred musicians from ten bands and corps of drums march and play as one. Some 113 words of command are given by the Officer in Command of the Parade. The parade route extends from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and back again.
Precisely as the clock on the Horse Guards Building strikes eleven, the Royal Procession arrives and The Queen takes the Royal Salute. The parade begins with the Inspection, The Queen driving slowly down the ranks of all eight Guards and then past the Household Cavalry. After the event, the Royal Family gathers on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch an RAF flypast.

Take yourself back to the summer of 1977...Roads were closed off, the sun was shining and we never had a care for Health and Safety! lol!...anyway we had a right 'ole Royal knees up didn't we!..Infact every street seemed to be closed off, with happy people, celebrating...

These BIG Lunches have been held all over the world too...which I think it is a brilliant, it gets people together, meeting and socialising with their neighbours, which can't be a bad thing can it! A new community spirit is surely a step in the right direction these days!

I have always wanted a SMEG fridge...and this year I could be a little more tempted than usual, what with these AMAZING colour options ..I have been looking at the different colour combinations and just can't decide...
Although being that it is BIG UP BLIGHTY year...you know, The Olympics and The Coronation and all...I think its going to have to be the 'Union Jack' Smeg for me...I wonder what kind of fridge the Queen has....she really should have a Union Jack Fridge too! don't you think?

Yep! we are getting ready for the Olympics...and with less and a year to go, my Mum decided to arrange an outing to 'The Olympic Park' I love going on her trips, she still arranges them at the young age of 81! she runs a WHSmiths retirement group in Chadwell Heath, Essex and she managed to fill a coach of 50 lovely retired ladies and gents!...oh and Me! lol!
Most of these pictures were taken on the coach...I wanted to show you how the East End of London is changing in the preparation of these games.
State of the art buldings are appearing on the horizon, The white building on the horizon is the Basketball Arena,this will be taken down after the Games.
Parts of it are expected to be reused or relocated elsewhere in the UK....thus making more use of it...which I think is quite cool!

My lovely Mum invited me along to one of her outings that she arranges for the WHSmiths retirement group...my Dad used to work for them and my Mum has organised the outings for this group for about 25 years now...
On the way we took in some wonderful sights.
