3 Essentials Every Summer Garden Party Needs

SOURCE
There’s still plenty of time throw a fabulous garden party this summer. It’s the perfect excuse to enjoy the amazing weather outside and spend time with your loved ones. You can play games, share stories and relish all of the delicious summer food and drink on offer. But if you’ve never planned a garden party before, you may not know how to get started. To help make your party the best it can be, here are three essential things you need to get right.

FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT
Food can make or break a garden party, so it’s vital that you get it right. Plan in advance and do a trial run of all your food before the date of your party. You can create a picnic-style feast with sandwiches and finger food. BBQ buffets are also a popular choice for garden parties. A traditional cream tea with scones, cakes, and tea might be another option you want to consider. You will also need to make a music playlist and organize games to provide entertainment at your party. Look online to see if you can make carnival games like hook a duck or coconut shy. You might also want to consider buying giant Jenga or Noughts and Crosses for your party too.

DECORATIONS
Even though your garden is bound to be full of colourful plants and flowers, some additional decorations can make a big difference. You can create garlands using artificial flowers which you can then hang onto your fence panels or above your entranceways. Bunting can also be used for an authentic vintage feel. Another idea is to hang paper pom poms from your trees to enhance their beauty even more. Use tablecloths to protect your furniture but also to add colour and interest. You can use large vases or small jam jars to display bouquets of flowers to make your tables look beautiful too. Wow! You could do something like this with Martha Stewart Craft Pom Poms! #zorattoent #partydecorations www.zorattoent.com.au:

Vibrantly patterned or coloured plates and glassware can also be used as decorative features for your garden party. Other functional and decoration pieces include blankets, cushions and deck chairs. Display these around your garden so they look as appealing as possible for your guests to use.

LIGHTING Your garden party shouldn’t have to stop because the sun has gone down. Take advantage of the warm summer nights by filling your garden with mood lighting. This will allow the fun of your party to continue into the early hours and make your guest feel more comfortable. Lighting can also transform the look of your garden making it look bigger and more relaxing.
You could wrap fairy or rope lights around your garden’s trees or put candles into tin cans and jam jars. Lanterns and teacup candles are other possibilities. Think carefully about your outdoor space and which areas will require the most light. If you’re still unsure about what you could use visit a lighting retailer online or in store for ideas and inspiration.

With these essentials covered, everything else will fall into place and make your party a complete success. The sun is bound to make an appearance when you’ve got such a wonderful event planned. So sit back, relax and enjoy every second.

What do you think of my Garden

Hello again my lovelies…sorry I have not been around for a little while…life is sure busy at the moment…but I thought i would take some time out and show you my garden.

I have been lucky enough to now own a large patch of laid to lawn with a paving slab patio and a 4″ x 6″ garden shed…I have been happily planting bedding plants in the borders, as you can see above! and they are coming up a treat!

I got them in Dobbies…this is a brilliant garden centre, just around the corner to me.  At the time of purchasing, they had just been sold by Tesco’s and they had a Grand Sale….I bought loads of them for 50p each tray…Bargain of the Century!

In the far left hand corner…I have what I call No Man’s Land! and in it grows ‘This’ (above) any ideas what it is? I know its some kind of fern, but not sure which!  I also have a mix of stinging nettles and a bit of bindweed…but it is all confined to that area at the moment! I am not letting that lil’ monster grow anywhere else…I have my Roundup at the ready!  There is also a Russian Vine on the back fence down there…which although is growing like wildfire…I quite like it as a fence covering.

So here is a picture of my little bedding plants when I first planted them…I will be the first to admit that I planted some of them a bit too close to the lawn edge…but you live and you learn don’t you!

!

Above is No-Man’s land! with little Max having a sniff!

This tree I inherited … any ideas what it could be?

Oh and I nearly forgot…I bought this climbing rose in Wilko…It was reduced to £1.00 so I planted it along with some feed and a special powder that my Mother-in-Law gave to me and as you can see it has started to grow!

I am falling in love with gardening all over again…it’s just so amazing that you can put something in the ground and watch it grow into something beautiful!…Nature is so wonderful don’t you think!

Enjoying Your Garden

My Painted Garden: June 2013:
SOURCE
Some people think of their garden is somewhere to hang out in just in good weather. But with a few minor adjustments you can be outdoors enjoying the fresh air no matter what the weather is like. Read on for some tips on how to enjoy your garden all year round.
SHADE
While we don't often complain about the beautiful weather it can get a bit much if you are out in it all the time, with no shade. That's why it is important to provide some shelter from the sun's UVA and UVB rays.
You can do this with a garden shade. The most common ones are garden umbrellas that are either freestanding or thread through a hole in your garden table. Then you can eat in the cool, while still enjoying the outdoor space.
There are also automatic electric sunshades available. These can be fitted to your balcony or patio and use a remote control to adjust the coverage that you need.
SWIMMING POOLS

SOURCE
Next, if you get scorching weather in the summer, you might want to invest in a swimming pool. While the idea of a permanent, sunken pool is appealing the price and maintenance may not be. Especially if you get freezing winters as well as super hot summers.
Palm Springs Barbie Party - LENZO: SOURCE
So why not get a temporary inflatable pool. They come with metal frames and are big enough to fit the whole family in. The little ones can even do a bit of real swimming in the larger sizes, while the adults use them to cool off.
FIRE PITS
If you want to spend time outside in the winter or the more chilly summer nights, what about using a firepit to stay warm? Fire pits are specially built containers that enclose burning materials to keep you toasty on cold nights. You can use iron pits with logs or buy specially made gas fire pits. A lovely addition to the gas variety is to use fireglass, which twinkles as the fire burns through it. Giving a magical effect.

SOURCE HOT TUBS
Another way of staying warm in the garden during the cold weather is to get a hot tub. They range from 2 seaters to 8-10 seaters and can be plumbed into your garden. Even if it's raining or snowing you’ll still be nice and cozy in the hot tub, and they are a great way to sit and enjoy the starry sky at night. Just don't forget a towel for when you finally have to get out, or you might end up a bit chilly.

CHIMENEAS
Chimeneas are also an attractive option for warming your outdoor space. They are freestanding stone pots, which are made up of an oven like shape at the bottom, with a chimney on the top. You add fuel such as wood to the bottom and the smoke is funneled up and away from you via the chimney. This leaves you to enjoy the glow and heat of the fire on a chilly evening...I don't really like the look of them, but I do love these by ModFire below....

Buying a New Forever Home for Mum

 a happy rosie picture
Buying a New Forever Home for Mum

I am currently in the process of buying a new forever home for Mum over here in Kent near me! We feel it is just the right time to do it now, as she is getting less mobile and doesn’t really like to drive anymore…

She has always had things to do over in London, as she used to run a WHSmith’s Retirement group and organised the many outings for all the members…we have been on lots of trips to the Theatre and days out to the Norfolk broads and Stately Homes etc! she always used to organise a good day out, even if the weather wasn’t all that good, we all used to have a laugh on the coach singing old songs and having a good ‘ole chat…

everyone can visit Mum

Once she decided that she didn’t have the energy to run the club anymore (no-one else wanted to run it either!)…the club disbanded.  She thought that she might get a few invites out, from the members, but she hasn’t…so the more we weighed up the pros and cons…we both decided it would be better for her to live nearer to us…

Freddy could pop round to her on his scooter, Rosie would be able to visit her everyday and I would be able to be her carer…so its a win win situation!

So…we have been looking at properties…Mum wants a ground floor flat or bungalow and I have been spending every moment of my spare time, arranging appointments…some Estate Agents are better than others…but I’ll give you all the low down when we have finished the process!

roses and whimsy

Also! gone are the days when you told the buyer your offer…and sat a while, biting your nails all off, while you too and fro’d your offer…No! These days, it’s all ‘sealed bids’ and ‘Offers Over’! It’s very skullduggery!

Have you any hints or tips on buying a property these days?

How To Stay Connected Throughout Your Home

More and more people are finding that they want to be connected every waking hour. Manual tasks seem more and more peculiar when we have so many apps and wifi connected appliances. Of course, if you live in a traditional or period style property, you may be wary of turning it into a twenty-first century digital hub. There needs to be a fine balance between sympathetic upgrades and technological convenience.
