HOUSTON!....WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

You might have noticed there is a problem around here to do with photobucket...it was due for renewel and I hadnt updated an old account to repay!!!!

Yes I am only human!...

But normality will be back soon! it might take a couple of days....
but I am working on it!...

In the meantime...if I have created your blog and you are also seeing my funny background on your design....then please do not panic! Please leave everything as it is...ok so it might look totally rubbish at the moment...but rest assured everything will be all back to normal soon!

A Party in Heaven

The last few weeks have been very sad for me...it started with a close friend of the family dying...I had known her most of my life...Eileen and her husband Roy used to socialise with my parents back in the 1970's and I grew up with their children. She was one of those people that was always happy to see you and would always be interested in what you had to say...she loved to talk and loved life...she was one of lifes lovely people.

During her funeral, this song was played (above) Mario Lanza...'Be my love' it was her favourite song...and needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye in the church, it was like Roy was saying these words to her...since then I havn't been able to get the tune out of my head...it is so beautiful, just like Eileen...May you rest in peace now my sweet angel.

Then last Saturday...somebody who I never knew died...yes you have probably guessed who...the lovely Amy Winehouse...I have been a fan of hers for years....that sexy, sultry, 1950's sound...that voice!

This lovely gal at the age of 20 released her first album FRANK and shot to stardom winning many awards...
She got her 1950's BIG hair and over the top eyeliner look when she met Blake, but even though, she looked fantastic...he turned out to be a monster in disguise...getting her into the drink and drugs scene that was to be to her downfall...but even through all of this...

We still loved her and would often talk about her like we knew her...willing her to make a full recovery from this terrible addiction...she had so much raw talent...we wanted her to live forever and make more records...but I think, in all our hearts, we knew she wouldnt make old bones, Bless her :(

Her CD 'Back to Black' has been in our car for a while now...we used to sing to it most days...we know all the words and Rosie and I would always sing at the top of our voices to it...a favourite one was Me and Mr Jones...such a typical 1950's sound...but sung in Amy's way...totally fabulous!

So like all the best singers that have gone before...Mario Lanza, Gwen Guthrie, Teena Marie, Luther Vandross (to name a few)...Amy will be with them now, singing in the clouds, with no more hurt and no more pain...

I can imagine it all, when I shut my eyes....the audience on the right includes my Dad his Mum and all his brothers and sisters, Eileen and my Nanny Hilda and Grandad Alf, and everyone else that I have loved and lost in the past....and over on the left is Stan Getz and Errol Garner playing their saxophones (Dad's favourites) with little Amy singing her heart out, along with the likes of Teena Marie, Gwen Guthrie, Mario Lanza and Luther Vandross! My goodness! What a party!

And so this next song is dedicated to them all...and everyone that all of you have loved and lost too...

Declutter Day

The other day I was sitting here in my cozy chair thinking of all the things I should be doing!...One of those chores was Ironing! ha! you think you have a big pile of ironing! mine is about 10ft high now! {I keep hiding it! shhh!} Everyone in the Happy House is having to buy new clothes!

...Anyway...rather than do the chores...I decided to have a de-clutter in the sitting room! Yikes!...I can hear you all yell!...Freddy was asleep, so this was the perfect opportunity to get some stuff moved down to the garage! before he woke up and discovered my dastardly plan!
{not sure if 'dastardly' is a word! but hey it sounded good! lol!}
{oh and please take note...nothing above was rejected unless it has yellow, orange, mauve or black...all red rose pieces are staying! :)}

I decided there was too many colours, that I didnt like...OK so whilst we were out and about we bought alot of orange and yellow glass...now rather than list it on my website...we decided to keep it and add it too our scheme! Now I appreciate that this retro look in very in vougue at the moment...but although I love the brightness of it all...I longed for my happy shabby look back! so rather than this...

l have toned it down and made it more of a happy shabby retro look incorporating all the quirky items that I love...

I know this is more me...don't get me wrong - I love retro, but I like more the quirky, pretty and cute, side of retro...

I have also found some yummy pieces lately that I have been meaning to show you...This picture for instance...isn't she divine...I have been looking for a place for her for ages now...so I decided to put her here in the sitting room!...oh and can you spy my little cherry brandy deer...isnt she lovely!

Also my cute little kissing couple...this is actually musical...it plays the theme from 'Love Story'...soooo soooo sweet ay!
As you can see I have kept some glass and a few snippets of yellow and orange here and there, but definitely more toned down!

I have also tweaked the mantle...I wanted to display my new {old} finds, which includes {above} my cute little 'Vernon Ward' pictures either side of the main picture and also my lovely little happy deer on the mantle piece...I think they look so much better over here!

And hey! what do you think of these lovely little 'bluebirds of happiness' that I found....aren't they just sooo sooo sweet! Right...so as you can imagine whilst making sooo much mess and taking items down to the garage! trying to be ever so quiet!
{something sagittariuns just cant do! lol!...well this saggitariun can't anyway!}

Hubby woke up! came downstairs and wasnt too happy!...apparently...I had been taking out of the room, everything that he had bought!!! OooOpps! No! really! are you sure??? Yes apparently! 'Oh well, at least you won't buy those kinda things again'! I said! EeK!...

I asked him a few days later whether he prefers it and he said he'd tell me when I have made the new cushions!...Jammy so and so! I know he prefers it really!...

Little does he know that I plan to paint the teak unit duck egg blue!!!!!!...But I'll have to wait until he goes out to do that!!! lol! ;)!

Our New Retro Sitting Room

Ok Ok! so we have gone a bit CrAzY with this look! but I so love being able to buy anything that I like and throwing it all together!

All colours pop out at me when I am shopping around town and now whatever we buy it all goes together with the look...

Notice how now we are incorporating yellow and orange!....colours that I would previously not have in my colour scheme...sticking only to reds, blues and pinks etc!

Keeping our French Enamel, shutters, Cath Kidston bits and whimsy pieces and adding retro dimensions like my blue golly, eames chairs and coloured glass...you might even be able to spot a few little creatures of the forest in this mix too...(look closely!)

It feels so warm and cosy in our sitting room...looking around at all our bits and pieces...adds smiles to our faces...and what with all the happy bright colours as well...I am sure this only adds to our happy nature ;)
