A Spring Clean!

This weekend I have been having a major spring clean and sort out, Fred and I have finally, I think, got into a better routine....what used to happen is that I go to work all day and Fred was the house husband...but things were getting a little strained for both of us, as it wasn't doing me any favors sitting down all day with no exercise and Fred's joints have been playing up more and more, so it was getting difficult for him to do the house chores...and plus he used to do the house work in about an hour and a half....when it used to take me a good 4 hours....so you can imagine a year of cleaning like that!....it was depressing me! Now we have started to share everything, I have taken on more things to help him and he helps me with the business side which enables him to sit down more...this is working out so much better for each of us and we are having more free time together, which is lovely...

So on Friday I decided to get a grip on things, black bags, bleach, washing up liquid all at the ready, my CK pinny tied on tight and I was ready for action!....I was conquering the top floor and as I polished, moved furniture, bleached and washed linen it was becoming rather therapeutic, not having done this for a while, I was finding I was really enjoying it. You see what with Fred being house husband, he used to do things his way, RUSHED! ...I am not knocking him, as he does do rather a lot in one day, he wares me out just watching what he gets up to!
I just felt everything needed a womans touch.....So eight hours later, swollen ankles, bad back and aching limbs...LATER, I had managed to clear 3 black sacks of rubbish from Rosie's room plus 8 black sacks full of boot sale clobber. 1 black sack of rubbish from our room, plus 2 black sacks of boot sale items.....2 black sacks of rubbish from Daz's bedroom (1 full of empty Dr pepper bottles!) and a whole sack full of black socks from down the side of his bed! THATS WHERE THEY ALL ARE! (check down the side of the bed gals for all the odd socks that you have lost over the years!) & One black sack of unwanted BROKEN boot sale items, only fit for the bin!

Any way it had taken me a whole day to Spring clean one floor, and then on sunday I tackled the middle floor, which has the Living room, dining room and kitchen....rubber gloves firmly on, tackling this floor was a bit of a doddle, with my initiation on Friday, I found this floor easier and more fun, as I was happy to find new places for our wonderful finds from the French Markets and Margaret's & Maddie's Garden Sale.

Then lastly I tackled the ground floor, which holds the craft room and laundry room, this floor was fun as I couldn't wait to sort out my paper and photograph collections...I have included pictures in this blog of the newly arranged items that I had forgot we had...polishing everything and re-arranging is just what the doctor ordered!...I now realise that I have too many things but because I love them all I can't possibly part with them....oh well.....I guess we'll have to move to a bigger house so that we can buy some more! hehehe!

Artist of the week!

I love this gal's voice.....all her troubles and all!....and sooo young, just 24...I wish the press would leave her alone and let her sort her problems out.....I watched a programme a few says ago about her life story - you might of seen it too!...it left me with sadness and dread, for I can see one day, us waking up to news that she has taken an overdose...and passed away. I was watching the programme thinking it and feeling sad before it had even happened!....My heart goes out to her family at this difficult time and I hope she can find the strength to get better....xx

Such a talent...I love her style...she is like a Bad girl from GREASE.....the tattoo thing, the BIG HAIR and the retro clothes all make me want to be young again...so I have chosen these favourite songs of mine from her collection.....sorry if you cannot stand music on blogs....just turn it off!

AMY WINEHOUSE is my Recording Artist of the week!

What a clever idea....!

Look at this clever idea from a 1956 Woman and Home Magazine.....this is taking the Union jack cushion cover to a new extreme! I have resized this picture to hopefully a big enough file to be able to read! (just click on it!)....It is a little faded though, sorry about that, its the age of the piece not my photography! (well thats my excuse anyway!)....Get Crafty and Enjoy!

Heaven on Earth!

Today was a great day!...for we were invited by friends of ours, Margaret & Maddie to their annual twice a year Garden Sale and we were in heaven!...Its held in Margaret's house which is sooo beautiful, a Georgian Mansion with ambling gardens and out buildings to die for...needless to say this was the perfect setting.

These ladies buy for this event all year...adding to the collection week by week and placing it in an eclectic array of colours and themed settings....

we were invited over today (saturday) one day early as the sale starts sunday...I am so glad we were, as apparently people queue around the block in anticipation of them opening their gates...I don't think I would of liked to of fought hammer and tongs for items that today we leisurely picked out.

I have always said its not what you know - but who you know....and its definitely the case here, for we had an extremely lovely time, sipping lime cordial....in the hot summer sun....whilst adding more and more to our pile!

We took many photographs for our blogs with the promise of letting everyone know where it was...but sitting in the car a little later, picking our daughter up from her Art GCSE exam, (well done Rosie!), we decided that it should be our little secret...(sorry folks!)

...And even later this evening we had to ring Margaret up again so that they could reserve us some other pieces...you see we just couldn't live without the 1950's kitchen cabinet and that wonderful 1930's mannequin!

Thank you Margaret and Maddie...for inviting us and adding us to your friends and family list, we had such a lovely time meeting everyone including Tosca and Truffle, you have a lovely home and exquisite taste and we are sooo looking forward to the next sale....keep up the good work! xx

Doesn't time fly....!

Well we have been to the French market and have already been back nearly two weeks!...I really do not know where the time goes...I know one thing though, our house needs a good clean, and now that the sun is shining, the dust looks so thick...you could even write your name in places!

Mum came last week to stay with us for a few days and we said the usual 'You'll have to take us as you find us'....we get along so well now, I now know that she doesn't come over to see a spotless house, but to see us! and we had a lovely time, watching films, lazing around...a bit of shopping, a meal out...and catching up on old times....phew! theres a lot of those!...Every time she comes we learn a little bit more about our heritage....that is one thing I must stress folks....do talk to your loved ones or at least get them to write things down - there are many things that I never talked about with my Dad...about the war and his childhood, I would of loved to of known now...to tell our children....and for them to tell their children....

We all hurry around these days don't we, rushing here and there and time floats by and before you know it another week, month, year has passed.....Yes we had a good old chatter, plenty of cuddles and much much laughter...I love our times together!

Thanks Mum for a lovely few days...I'll look forward to the next time!

He's kitted it out over at his blog as the perfect Bootsale Trolley and I've kitted it out as the perfect Brocante trolley, complete with my wellies, an umbrella (vintage of course!) My beret, a large strawberry bag and an apron! Goodness knows why I have put an apron in the basket....but it looks good!....and you never know, someone might ask me to make some cupcakes enroute!!

Love it....!

Brick lane.......

On the way back from Columbia Road, we visited Brick Lane, an old haunt of ours, from years ago and just on the corner is a vintage warehouse called 'Beyond Retro'. Now this warehouse/jumble sale type shop claims to have around 10,000 items for sale, and I can totally believe it....just look at the clobber!

So of course we had to pop in and have a look....I had my camera set so that the flash didn't go off and took all these pic's to show you what it was like, Fred kept telling me to stop! because they wouldn't allow it if they knew....but what the heck!....I just couldn't resist!
So heres a few snippets into this East End Boutique....Honestly girls, if you are ever over for a holiday....do not forget to let us know, we will be able to take you to many haunts that we frequent around London and beyond! to make your holiday truly superb!

This is all so vintage chic....check out those gloves!

And just up my street....Primary colours - I love 'em!

Spot the Jellies!....Honestly folks this was a trip down memory lane....there was many more shoes, heaps of bags and jewellery...there was a mens section with all kinds of accessories for them.....which was great coz while their browzing you can be left alone to look too!......The pretty petticoats took me back to being a girl in the 1970's, I used to have a ruffly petticoat like that in my dressing up box!...didnt we all!...but did you dance around the living room in it to the Bay City Rollers!! Hmmm P'haps NOT!

I have been a window dresser in my time and would of love to of stayed there all night to arrange the shelves and pretend I was shopkeeper again.....Ill have to blog about my shop I have got pics somewhere....thats another story!

This place is heaven.....I wonder if they need a new assistant!

WOW look at those!.....

On the way home I thought I would defintely blog more about the East End....You see Fred is from this part of London and I am from the West End....thats why I always feel at home with 'cath'! (all of her shops seem to be there!) I think I will blog more about where we came from - it should be interesting as Fred's family are typical Eastenders, salt of the earth and all that!....and my family are typical Westenders........all very worth blogging about!

To be cont'd......

Hello everyone - we have been decorating the house for the Easter Holidays just recently, well actually we started last week and the preparations started with a trip to Columbia Road, well it is a flower market...and remember from last time they do have rather lovely shops...so rather than write too much, I have decided to talk you through some pictures for an easter treat, its better for the figure as well ;0)!

Spring is on its way, the sun is shinning thought the windows, so we thought we had better get some dafs and tulips to decorate the house - what a lovely time of the year!

Fred has been collecting odd chairs from the local boot sales through the winter, he never paid more than £2.00 for each one as that was his budget!...theres bargains to be had in the dreary rain you know! The other day he painted them all odd colours and also made the teacup candlabre over on the left hand side....all that and I was still trying to teach myself frontpage!!....Ill be a computer Whizz yet! I just wish I was born 20 years later so it would all make sense a little quicker!!

Beautiful Easter flowers.....what a delight!...OooOooh and this little chickadee was purchased at the Country Living fair....This show really gets you in the mood for Easter!....Although there was more clothes there than I would of liked but never mind it is a great show!

Ive just thrown this picture in for good measure as the little girl with her watering can and the boy with a wink in his eye reminded me of happy times and I thought as this was a blog full of 'Happy pics' I should include it!

Right....here we are in the thick of it last sunday....sourcing our Easter Flowers....

Heres Fred.....Just bought a lovely load of bulbs in this chic tub!....

Sorry to these people that got in the way of my picture...This is the only hussely bussely picture i have, but i hope you get the drift of the high street scene....there are growers from all over the place that come to this market and it is so much cheaper than the garden centres...so do bare that in mind folks when you next need a palm for the garden!

Heres a few of my favourite shops....

'OPENHOUSE'
******0O0******

'MADE'
******0O0******

'COURTESAN COUTURE'
******0O0******

And this little shop....I forget the name of it but i am sure one of you will be able to remind me!

....And then look what we found! Fred and Kev having a sneeky Cumberland sausage roll!!!

So of course we had to have one too - but there is no pic (or no evidence I should say!)....sorry! You see when you are the photographer, no one gets to take your photo!!

I wanted to take all of these home as my Nan and Granddad used to have them in their front garden and they remind me of old times....You know when families used to get together around the piano and have a good old sing song!

And this is 'Treacle' - they sell such Divine little cakes....with all the 1950's accessories...so you know why we love it here!

...And here I am at last....a picture of me!!!

I hope all of you have a lovely easter and ill see you on the other side.....all the best - luv happy xx

GHOSTLY MILARKEY

I do not believe in all this ghosty stuff...but i nearly did the other night!....You see I was up late, working on my computer...drifting off to sleep, when suddenly I was woken by my chair shaking slowly from side to side, it startled me! but thought "well I was on my way to the land of zzzzzz! so I didn't think much of it!

.....a few moments later, it happened again!...Yikes!!!! I have never been a believer of ghosts and all that milarkey! but I was convinced, a ghost was trying to shake me off the chair......I quickly looked around, the light had blown earlier than day and I only had the dim light of my work lamp!! as I looked around quickly, in that fearful (please let there be nothing there!) look. I quickly scurried upstairs, Max (the dog) was following hurriedly behind!...a bit like a scene from scooby doo!....Honestly I have never hot footed it up the stairs so quick!!

I got into bed and awoke Fred....Fred! Fred! I said.....I think a ghost, has tried to shake me off the chair.....half asleep, he assured me that I would be ok and not to worry.....It took me a while to get to sleep, but in the morning as Fred was bringing me breakfast in bed he said, 'I think I have your answer to the Ghost problem!'...and as I looked at the Paper, the headlines were about the Earthquake we had around 1 o'clock in the morning....just around the time that I thought that darned ghost had tried to get me off the chair! Phew! What a relief! and although the epi centre was up North...our house is built on stilts or whatever they call it in the building trade, hence the house swaying!.....

Global warming!! its definately happening folks - who'd of thought old blighty would have an earthquake....I must just say, I do hope everyone that was directly involved is ok and my prayers do go out to each and everyone of you......Keep making those changes girls....re-usable bags...cycling to work.....unplug at night....every little helps!

I am a great believer of fate and the will of the mind....in fact I think 'the mind' is the most powerful tool of all.....perhaps that is where the ghosts come from!! Have people actually seen them....or is it your mind making you see them!!.......oooh so sorry, I am getting too deep here!!!!

Bye for now folks - luv Happy x

Sick of coughing!

Hello folks, its only january and I have the most irritating cough that is keeping me (and everyine else!) awake all night long....whenever I get Ill, I usually end up with a cough....but this one really does need an award for the worst cough I have every had....I stayed up until 5am last night - hoping that I would be so tired, that I might get a few hours sleep, but no! as soon as I lay my head down, so my tickle starts to irritate and I ended up hacking away!

I still have my tonsils, so I suppose there is more to infect in my throat, that is probably why I have such and irritation....or I wondered, do you think it is linked with giving up asparthame! I am blaming everything on to that! You see a friend of mine, kept telling me how bad it was, and I didnt really believe him until it was all in black and white in front of me....so you would of thought that I would of been able to sleep at night now, wouldn't you being that I am so asparthame free!.....but no! my hacking cough continues.....all day and all night! every 10 breaths or so the tickle starts, its really terrible, what should i do!

Here in blighty, the doctors say - do not come to see us unless what you are producing is a rather nasty colour (sorry folks! thought Id save the colour to your imagination!).....so here I am - Fred is about to divorce me, as he has had hardly any sleep listening to me.....the sympathy is soooo wearing out!.....He told me he was getting fed up with it now! Yikes what is a gal to do!

So I thought I would ask you all for your 'rotton tickly cough' remedies - home made of course, as this year I am going all 'eau naturel'......what with the food issues ....chicken! .....asparthame! ....and wrinkle creams! oh and trying to lose 10 stone! but thats another story!

I really would appreciate any help that you have, as i feel so ill this week, the colour has actually drained from my face......so I need lots of sympathy!.......No more than that!!! :)

Thanks girls, look forward to hearing from you - Luv happy xx
