First may I say that I am so chuffed right now!....do you remember the hair situation a few blogs ago!...well I had my hair dyed brown at the Hairdressers (with the help of hairmixer!) for the costly sum of £100+...I know disgusting!! When I was in there a few weeks ago, with Rosie (yet more expense!) I asked how much they would charge me to have another semi-permanent put on my hair! Now bearing in mind they told me at the start that it would be cheaper to maintain for me.....I was told £50.00 thats with NO cut! Just for the roots to be done and the colour to be washed through my hair and then off course a blowdry! well needless to say I was flabberghasted.... I thought it would be more like £20.00 as they did originally say that it would be cheaper for me!

I was clever though! I asked her 'if I wanted to go darker - what shade she would use' and she replied anything warm as now my hair was slightly red!....anything would 'stick' to it! When we left the hairdressers we headed straight for Boots and I bought a Nice & Easy semi permanent in a warm rich brown....and this evening Rosie has applied it to my hair and it has turned out fabulous! and all for a tidy sum of £3.95 and 20 mins of our time!

I feel great! at long last I can dye my hair myself....NO more rip-off hairdressers...just straight in for a cut and blowdry!...how fab!....At last I feel in control!

Luv happy x

  1. yay for home colourants!
I've used them for years as I was sick to death of never getting the colour I wanted at the hairdressers...those root touch up packs are a godsend too.
I must admit after playing around on hairmixer having seen it on your blog..I'm very tempted to go dark again..so much less hassle than doing roots then highlights!

I'm off to check out your other blogs now..love the headers!

  2. How weird is that. I stumbled on this post after feeling so depressed about my hair today that I could chop it all off. I would love to colour it, but I'm too scared. I'm dark brown with red (like you now!) but I've always wanted to be blonde, just for a change. I'm interested in the sound of hairmixer, because somebody mentioned this to me sometime ago but I'd forgotten the name. I shall hunt around your blog and try and find it.
Thanks for the inspirational post. x

  3. You are so brave! My only memory of home hair colouring is one of orange hands and orange streaks all down my face and neck......for weeks! Arrgghhh!
P.S. the security verification thing just asked me to type in 'slymp' - that should be a real word shouldn't it - sort of somewhere between a slim and reality! :-)

  5. Way hay! Another convert to home colourants!
Not being super endowed with money, I have managed to keep my hairdressing expenses down recently. I go to my husband's barber, a real old fashioned corner shop in a not fab area, who cuts womens hair for £7, no fancy blow drying or faffing around, and then I do the colour myself for about £5. I always used to walk away from the posh ladies' salons feeling cheated, I didn't match in and I never felt happy. Now I get the style I want for much less... and spend the difference on books!

  6. Well done hun on finding the right colour for you and not paying out those flaming high hair dressers prices, I hate that they are so expensive, just don't know where they get their prices from. Since having my hair cut shorter I have to go a lot more and hate paying out £30 a time for a cut and blow dry (guess I'm just a cheap bird. I do save on my girls hair and Ben my partner because I cut theirs. At the young age of 16 I did some training so it comes in handy for them lol
    Looking good sweetie.
    Hugs.

  7. Good for you, I have dyed my hair myself for years, mainly because of the cost of having it done at the hairdressers.

  10. Hi Happy! I have just found you blog and it is so pretty. As for hair colouring, I have been almost every colour under the sun and also paid through the nose for the privileged. One of the biggest kickers for me is the time they take to do my hair, up to 4 hours just to colour and blow dry! I have two little girls so finding the time for this has become impossible, so I switched to doing it myself too. For some reason I can do it in 1 hour, and it is about $200 cheaper as well.
