I love Habitat and have been a fan since Freddy and I got married 27 years ago...our first house was decked out in Uber modern decor with black, white and aqua...we had the angular white and black head vases of the 1980's and black and white bow curtains that we ordered from Harrods!
Our ultra modern aqua leather 3 piece suite was from Ekornes and every weekend we used to go shopping to buy some more state of the art home wares for our designer pad....we had a Habitat in Romford, near where we lived and would check out their latest deliveries nearly every weekend.
Once the Boot Sales came into full swing, we  would buy a lot of home stuff from there and that's when we moved into vintage style...it was around about the time when my Nan had to go into a home and my Uncle sold off most of her possessions for £50...

That's when I started to buy knick knacks from my memories of my childhood, but I have always liked a little bit of modern thrown into the mix too...I think done properly...you can create your own look...by adding something simple like a rug or a picture, you can really add a new dimension to your home, and give it an eccentric feel.
I think Habitat does the vintage modern thing very well, as look at this take on a vintage style picnic basket....full of vintage charm, yet bang up to date with the bright yellow and turquoise...

They also have an amazing website, which is where I have to look now, as they do not have a 'bricks and mortar' shop in my area anymore :(

But as you can see, I have chosen a few pictures from their site here, of items that I would love to own...quirky bits and pieces that would fit into my home very well me finks!

Habitat have a SALE on at the moment...so it might be worth checking it out HERE.

  1. I've really enjoyed the shift in home design over the last few years where people have stopped worrying snout mixing old and new! I adore arts&crafts and 30s british design as my familes style is quite traditional, but when I redecorated my room I went completely different with Ercol and clean scandinavian influences, to give a more calm feel. I think you're right, you have to choose with your heart with these things, and most importantly, have fun with it!!
