upside down!, originally uploaded by happy loves rosie.

Well its time to venture down to the garage and sort out all of our christmas decorations...Yes we have bought all of them with us (when we moved) and we have been buying vintage baubles through the year as well...goodness knows where they are all going to go! we have stacks and stacks! and as I have over-filled our little cottage already, it will be a major uphaul!

Above are some of the lovely decorations that we have found just lately...the colours are fabulous, so bright and decadent.  The first picture at the top was taken 2 years ago now, when we lived on the Island (stepford wives) we had a lovely sitting room there - very large though...you could of put a tree anywhere and it would never look crowded....but here at 'The Meadows' it is a different story!

I really do not know where I shall be placing the tree...if at all, coz I like everything as it is...its all cosy and if I were to move anything I am frightened that I will loose that feeling...but hey ho...onwards and upwards as my old Nanny Hilda used to say!...Perhaps I will have to compromise and not have one in the sitting room at all...we'll see eh!;)

I do love decorating with twigs...check them out over the doorway above in our old house...you can hang baubles and clip cards to the branches and it really does look effective.

Also another thing that we do....and I can see my Mum shaking her head in disgrace!LOL! is Card swapping! Oh yes gals....if the card doesn't match the decor, it gets put in the cupboard and replaced with one that does! one that I have either made myself or saved from years previous! Is that SAD or what! hehehe!

Well it is a bit cheeky...but if peeps don't know me by now! their card deserves to be put in the cupboard don't you think! :D

Is there anyone else out there like me?

Anyway I will keep you all posted on our Christmas decorating progress...Speak soon gals...

Love Happy x

  1. Why don't you just hang all your tree ornaments from the ceiling?!

I do something similar with cards - when I see one online that I really like (and wish someone would send to me), I print it out and hang it up.

  2. I know what you mean, I'm alway moving furniture around to find the right spot for the christmas tree.
I hang the less pretty cards a bit behind the beautys... is that bad?

  8. I do the card thing!! I always admired my mother-in-law's Christmas cards - couldn't work out how she got such nice ones each year then realised the same cards came out every year. I'm afraid I do that now, as some of them are so lovely!

  10. Now I'm definately in the mood for Christmas, thanks to your great, vibrant and very inspirational pictures! Every year I wonder how I managed it the year before to put all the Christmas stuff in the house (we have a very little cottage), and I even don't have as much as you! But each time it ends up well! Hahaha, and you're not the only card-swapper! Well, I don't swap actually, but the cards that suit me I use as decoration.
The other ones I put in my reindeer cardholder.
    Hohoho, have a nice pre-Christmas!

  13. I am fore going the big tree and going for small decorative vignettes around the house and yard. In fact, I found an old garden lattice that I've promised my readers I shall be turning into a Xmas tree with all "handmade from what I have around the house" ornaments! I hate the "too cheery commercialism" of the store displays. So I'm going homemade here. LOVE your blog and get so excited to see glimpses of your lovely home. (And yeah, I'd be trading the ugly cards out for vintage ones. Oh yeah!)

  14. Well i dont really hide any cards away but I do know what you mean about wanting to hide away the stuff that doesnt go with your decor! I have certainly stuck some things in the "back" where they are not immediately "evident"...dont tell anyone...

  17. That is very funny. I haven't done the card swap thing just hidden some that don't quite fit the theme due to size or colour. Think I might have to do some card swapping in the future though.

  24. I don't save the Christmas cards to rehang, but re-use some as tags for the following years presents!
I do put the ones that 'go' say on the mantlepiece and the 'others' get bunched together on a card tree....Kx

  28. WOW! I love the twigs around your doorway. How did you affix them? I'd like to try something like this! It's so cute.

  29. You are so funny---but what was even funnier is that I wondered what you meant by upside down---I was enjoying the colors so much I did not even notice the tree being upside down. I have the same problem because we downsized into a condo and I don't like the way a big tree takes up so much room. One time I just left off 1/4 of the back branches to make it fit!
