My Pretty Bedroom – Living on the Island

metal bed with granny blanket and vintage accessories
I realised the other day that I haven’t added any pictures of my pretty bedroom and I know how much you all like taking a peek into the Happy House decor…well here is some well overdue eye candy for you to hopefully get some inspiration from…

old bed decorated with union jack and patchwork cushions

As you can see I love everything vintage and even if it isn’t old, I love the vintage vibe of new things, as long as it all matches in my head anyway!  The colours I just can’t get my head around though is Purple or Orange! Pink – Yes,  Yellow – Yes, but purple and orange is a definite NO.  Do you have any colours that you can’t stand to decorate with?

Cath Kidston; well she plays a part in my style, seeing that it is extremely hard to find old pieces of material and anything vintage really, her designs fit into my decor perfectly and seeing that I have also helped her with sourcing fabrics for her books and collections, is it a wonder that I love the brand!

[NOTE] – This post was written back in 2008 so the wonderful cottagey prints and ethos of the original CK designs are no more unfortunately!  You might like the new stylesicon…they have definitely moved on, trying to appeal to a more modern customer, I think! and to us Die Hard folks that started our blogs, all linked by the fact that we all loved Cath and her pretty vintage style!…well we are fans no more!  Cath no longer owns the company but I pray that soon she will show her face to the world again and pretty up this male orientated world with pretty girly florals again x

I just love the chippy rubbed away painted look, I often buy pieces just for that look!  When I buy something like say the french blue chair above, people often say to me ‘it’ll look good after a rub down and a repaint!’  I always laugh!  Why would you want to do that!  I love it just the way it is!  It could tell a story that I am sure, every bit of rubbed off paint worn away over the years…how lovely is that!

You just can’t beat the shabby look…a little bit battered, showing it’s age, i think its beautiful.

What do you think?

Bye for Now x

I think we all long for our younger years’s comfort belongings as we get older. I think age is just a number because I feel just as young as ever…maybe it is all my toys from 30 years ago I keep around me! Haha.I love your Golly. I have a few myself here in the USA.Amy

I love you style, it’s very bright and vibrant. I much prefer it to a lot of this French-inspired white painted furniture you see around. I’m glad someone else likes a bit of colour it’s nice to see! 🙂
