How to Create the Perfect Bedroom Ambience

The perfect bedroom means something different to everyone, but what’s universally clear is that the ideal bedroom should be comfortable and functional. Here’s how to lay the foundations for a perfect boudoir and then add your own personal finishing touches!

Don’t Neglect Your Windows

Not only is window treatment important aesthetically for the dressing of your room, but it’s essential for a good night’s sleep. You want to be sure that natural light levels are controlled depending on how you best deal with them. If you can’t sleep with even the tiniest spot of light, then you might want to consider blackout blinds or curtains. If you’re happy to sleep with the moonlight streaming in and wake to the rising sun, then you may want to consider lighter curtains or even voile options.

Make Your Bed the Best It Can Be

Your bed should be the height of priority for health, comfort, and wellbeing purposes. It’s easy to dismiss your bed because you barely see it when you’re awake, but you spend around one-third of your life asleep, so it’s important to get it just right.

Your bed should be both practical and aesthetically pleasing, and so it’s important to work backwards. First, you need to make sure you get the right frame type and mattress for your health. Be sure to take the time to find the firmness which works for you, and understand mattress sizes that affect your body so you can find the right one.

Once you’ve built your bed for comfort, you can then have fun dressing it. Choose bedsheets that match the décor of the room, or else provide a bold contrast, depending on your style. Add some exciting throws and scatter cushions to add colour, patterns, or simply softer layers.

Add Texture

A feature wall behind the head of the bed with wallpaper can be a great way to add texture to the bedroom, as well as offer an attractive design to the room. You could also choose a grander headboard, such as a thick fabric one, to add both texture and softness. Layers and texture can also be added through extra textiles, like thick and cosy rugs, wall canvases, and thicker curtains.

Add the Things You Love

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, which means it should only be filled with the items which bring you joy or which relax you. Think about this when decorating or accessorising, as you don’t want to have anything which doesn’t help you to switch off. It’s a good idea to avoid having any technology in the bedroom, too.

Consider Adding a Seat or Two

When you create a harmonious and relaxing bedroom, you might want to spend a little extra time in there just to relax and not necessarily to sleep. Having an armchair or two, or even a small couch, if you have the space available, can also create a cosy seating area that you can use. Or, maybe you could have a dressing chair and table so that you can sit comfortably in order to get ready for bed.

Have fun!
