The Joy Of Missing Out And How To Indulge

Forget heading out to every event and party that you are invited too… Instead, take off your high heels, put your hair up and throw the loungewear on.  Let’s get some JOMO on the go. JOMO is purely the Joy of Missing Out. Choosing to stay in and pamper yourself, replenish your energy and some good old self-care. 

Staying in is the new going out and when life is so busy and bustling as it is…Sometimes staying in is a much better option.   As we get older the responsibilities start stacking up thick and fast…And more is expected of us therefore the more we expect from ourselves too.  Getting downtime in a relaxing environment that you have created is a wonderful feeling!

Food

Spending time making the food that you love the most is a rewarding thing to do for yourself.  Although sometimes we can get bored with making decisions. There is such a thing as decision fatigue and the more choices we have to make in the day, the less we want to make and the harder they become. 

So by the time it comes to making something delicious for yourself, you might not want too.   So you could have a Hello Fresh delivery, and have all of your meals preplanned (I have been looking into this myself, the recipes look so yummy!) – all you have to do is cook them. Or, you can think about the most delicious meal you have ever had and recreate that for yourself. 

Here are some quick options that are really tasty:

  • Eggs Benedict
  • Avocados on Toast
  • Big Fresh Poke Bowl
  • Salmon 

Just remember that if you were in a spa, you would be eating all of these lush goodies with plenty of water, and you should do the same at home.

Comfort

You should be as cozy as possible during your relaxation mission. If you don’t already have a long fluffy robe, then it is time to find one and fall in love with it. Silk robes feel even more luxurious; they are light and comfortable to wear too. You can check out The White Company deals as their robes are lux and cozy. 

Or you can blow the robe to the side for a while and wear your most beloved leggings and a baggy jumper. Whatever makes you happy.

Scents

Lighting your favourite candle can be the very start of your relaxing routine. So having some saved for your JOMO time can help you cement it into a whole routine. There are scents that will brighten your mood, some that are great for getting you feeling productive and others for relaxing.

  • Rosemary
  • Grapefruit

You can spend some time creating your own personal scent for your JOMO time. Mixing essential oils like rose and rosemary, or grapefruit and orange will give you a more personal scent. 

Notifications

Here is one of the most important ones. Part of the joy of missing out is unplugging from the world for a while. Most people have work emails and messages come through to their phones at all times of the day or night – and this is even more true for freelancers or small business owners. So it becomes vital for you to be able to block that off for a while. 

For the time that you want to spend alone relaxing, you can either turn off notifications, or you can turn your phone off completely. You might find that you feel incredibly free not knowing what is going on, while you are relaxing in a bath, watching TV or eating the food you love…Taking time out is so good for your health and something we should all be thinking of doing a lot more in the future!

Movies and Series

This is the perfect time to catch up on the new movies that are on Netflix, Amazon, or whatever streaming service you use. Here are a few ideas on some films on Netflix that are easy to watch and enjoyable.

Of course, that all depends on your personal taste. There are also amazing full series on Netflix that you can happily spend an evening enjoying.  I have recently watched “I am not Okay with this” (its from the makers of Stranger Things and End of the F***ing World…!) I watched all the 7 episodes in one evening (they are only 25 minutes long) and I sat there with some indulgent snacks and thoroughly enjoyed the time to myself.

True luxury is finding the time or making time to do the things you love. Giving yourself time and space to breathe and relax no matter what life throws at you… Try to do this for yourself without feeling guilty though! that is my worst trait, always feeling guilty if I am doing nothing…Just try to relax…and have fun, rejuvenatiing your mind body and soul.
